Today’s monster is studies from a bookproject I started this month. I got the manuscript before Christmas, but I didn’t have a chance to start until two weeks ago. I’m not yet sure how much my collaborators and publisher wants me to post about it, but I guess it’s quite harmless to post some early studies for charcter design.
I’m trying out different versions of the Norwegian troll, and quite liked this one. The character is not very defined, but I liked the idea of putting a forest on it’s head like hair, with it’s own environment and weather that reflect the mood the troll is in.
I know I didn’t discover fire with doing the Weekly Monster. Today I discovered the caracter design artist Chris Ayers, an illustrator residing in LA, that runs a project called The Daily Zoo. “Keeping the Doctor at Bay with a Drawing a Day.” I was completely dwarfed by his technical skills, while still keeping the characters alive and filled with humor and attitude. Go and have a read, it is a seriously interesting project.

Hei :-) Så hyggelig å treffe på en illustratør til i "bloggeverdenen". Liker veldig godt tegningene dine, fantastiske karakterer. Det blir spennende å følge med på det nye trollprosjektet ditt :-)
